Meet our Team
Seattle Animal Foundation is governed by a volunteer board of directors dedicated to ensuring rescue animals in the Greater Seattle area are treated with the dignity, compassion, and resources they deserve.

Board President
Justin Taft
Justin is the Executive Director at the Brain Injury Alliance of Washington, where his primary focus is on strategic oversight and the implementation of initiatives that reinforce the organization’s mission.
His team collaborates to enhance support systems for individuals with brain injuries, leveraging his expertise in strategic planning, financial management, and human resources.
Justin is committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. The strategies he has developed through effective social networking and communication have been crucial in ensuring the organization’s adaptability and sustainability in the ever-evolving landscape of nonprofit healthcare services.
In addition to his role at the Brain Injury Alliance of Washington, he serves as an adjunct professor at Bellevue College, teaching courses in health equity, epidemiology and practicum preparation. His passion for health equity and social justice drives his commitment to shaping the next generation of health leaders. He strives to inspire and equip his students with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle today’s health challenges effectively.
Justin has lived in the Central District neighborhood of Seattle for 21 years with his husband, Padraic. They adopted their first dog, Cody, in 2008 and their second dog, Sugar, in 2017, both of whom are rescues from Texas. Justin also has two sons who live in Bristol, RI.

Board Vice President | Marketing Committee
JJ Lee
JJ Lee is a corporate affairs specialist with more than a decade of experience leading PR offices in the U.S. and overseas.
She has worked with clients in the tech, philanthropies, and healthcare sectors in communicating their mission and bringing communities together through partnerships.
She is excited to join the Board as a member of the Marketing Committee. JJ has a passion for animal rehabilitation and training. She spends all of her free time gardening, crocheting (mostly likenesses of her dogos!) and discovering new places to eat.

Board Member | Grants Committee
Meghan Madden
Meghan Madden is a nonprofit fundraising and operations professional, mostly in the environment and wildlife conservation sectors.
She leads the committee that oversees grants to for Seattle Animal Foundation and is a critter foster for Seattle Animal Shelter. Meghan a dog, 2 rabbits adopted from SAS, and a rotating roster of foster guinea pigs, rabbits, and the occasional rat. Outside of trying to save all the wild and domesticated animals, Meghan loves reading, hiking, traveling, horror movies, and snuggling with her furbabies.

Executive Director
Jim Cox
Jim worked in finance for over 25 years with the last 17 at JP Morgan. Most recently he spent twelve years in their London office covering some of the bank’s largest hedge fund clients.
Growing up in the Seattle area, Jim graduated from the University of Washington before moving to the Bay Area.
Jim met his wife in San Francisco where they began fostering kittens for the SFSPCA, Laura was a longtime volunteer at the Mayhew Animal Home in North London where they also adopted two rescue kittens before bringing them back to Seattle. Jim has been a volunteer dog walker at the Seattle Animal Shelter (SAS) since he returned to Seattle in 2023. He also conducted check in calls following SAS canine adoptions. Beyond rescue animals, his passions include purpose-driven companies, soccer, travel, cooking, bouldering and Liverpool Football Club.
“I ultimately left banking to make a change in my life and work on something more purposeful. Michaela Berendt
Michaela Berendt has a decade of experience in political fundraising, and is excited to bring her talents to her second passion, the animals our organization serves!

Board Secretary & Auction Co-Chair
Mindy Fitzgerald
Mindy is a seasoned marketing and communications professional with 20+ years of experience driving behavior change across environmental, healthcare, and transportation sectors.
She’s partnered with clients across public, private, and nonprofit spaces to turn ideas into impact.
Her journey with Seattle Animal Shelter began as a volunteer and soon led her to the SAF Furevermore Auction & Gala committee, then the SAF Board—where she now serves as Secretary and second year as co-chair of the annual auction.
Mindy enjoys building creative partnerships that champion animal welfare. She and her family adopted their dog, Charlie Spot Fitzgerald, in 2017, and had their first “foster fail” with their youngest pup, Theo, in 2023—two oversized lap dogs who bring boundless joy and laughter.

Board Member | Community Events Committee
Pamela Wuest
Pamela has been in the meetings and hospitality industry for over 20 years having worked in corporate events, fundraising and non-profit event management, as well as third-party meeting planning.
Pamela enjoys watching and playing sports and is a former running coach. Having moved to Seattle from Toledo, Ohio, she still loves the Detroit Lions and the Ohio State Buckeyes, but still roots for all Seattle sports teams (when they aren’t playing the Lions or Buckeyes).
Pamela is passionate about all dogs and pets, especially her dog, Lou, a German Shorthaired Pointer, who also goes by Lou-Lou, Louis Edward, Bubbers, or Bubs. Lou & Pamela live in Maple Leaf with their partner in crime, Mike, who keeps them both well fed.

Amanda LeRoy
Amanda brings more than 20 years of hospitality experience to the table—and she knows how to set that table beautifully. A Certified Professional in Catering and Events (CPCE), Amanda has a flair for planning unforgettable experiences, from corporate conferences and community galas to weddings that wow.
She’s a former Vice President of the Seattle chapter of NACE (National Association for Catering and Events), and her leadership reflects her deep roots in the industry and her passion for bringing people together.
Outside of work, Amanda is all about adventure and flavor. You’ll find her paddle boarding, biking, cooking up something delicious, or exploring the world one bite and glass of wine at a time. At home, she shares life with her husband, Chris, and their very loved (and slightly spoiled) German Shorthaired Pointer, Wade.

Rachel Lazar
Rachel has over 25 years of marketing experience, dating back to the early days of Amazon.com. She is the founder of a boutique digital marketing agency based in Seattle and works with clients of all sizes to drive leads, new customers, and revenue for the business.
In her spare time she loves spending time with her husband, two teenage daughters, dear friends, and her two rescue dogs, Ajax and Jasper. Rachel has been involved in the rescue nonprofit world for over 20 years and looks forward to being a part of SAF’s growth and impact on local animal welfare efforts.

Dorothy Gorman
Dorothy is a powerhouse in sales and logistics, known for her unmatched network and ability to make big things happen.
In 2023, she brought that same energy to the SAF Furevermore Auction & Gala committee — leading procurement and packing the house to help raise record-breaking funds for animals in need. In 2024 she’s doing it officially as a board member and auction co-chair.
A lifelong animal lover, Dorothy adopted her soulful sidekick Rosie — a spirited and independent street dog from Guatemala — in 2010. For 15 unforgettable years, Rosie ruled with love, sass, a daily barkcuterie board, and very own car! Though she’s now chasing squirrels and sticks beyond the rainbow bridge, her legacy of joy, loyalty, and adventure lives on.

Bradley Lamb
Bradley brings over 20 years of business development experience at companies like Yahoo and Bloomberg, and a passion for rescuing/adopting animals to her SAF Board role.
She currently leads the Direct to Consumer Partnerships Team at Trupanion, and has been with Trupanion since 2019. In her spare time, Bradley loves traveling with her partner, working out at Orangetheory, and is the proud mother of: Hattie and Alice (dogs), and Eugene, Ernie, Mugsy, and Millie (cats). All rescues!

Board Member & Treasurer
Emily Whan
Emily has worked in corporate finance for over a decade, bringing experience across a variety of industries and business environments; most recently in tech. In addition to her professional work, she also runs a successful pet-sitting side gig.
She is a PNW native and enjoys staying active, especially through playing soccer and backpacking. When she’s not working, she spends much of her time volunteering/supporting animal rescue and rehabilitation efforts, fostering dogs on the way to their forever families, and caring for her own two cats, James and Ruby. Emily is passionate about animal welfare and making a positive impact on the lives of the animals in our community.

Kaylee Botting
Kaylee is a marketing manager with over five years of experience in the nonprofit animal welfare community.
She has led marketing, communications, and outreach efforts for a local animal rescue in Seattle, helping amplify mission-driven storytelling, build community engagement, and support lifesaving programs through strategic campaigns and partnerships.
In 2023, she brought that same energy to the SAF Furevermore Auction & Gala committee — leading procurement and packing the house to help raise record-breaking funds for animals in need. In 2024 she’s doing it officially as a board member and auction co-chair.
She is excited to contribute her skills as a member of the Marketing Committee and is deeply passionate about making a meaningful impact within the animal welfare space. When she’s not working, she enjoys crafting, baking, and traveling, always finding inspiration in new places and creative projects.
