Development Co-Chair (Development Committee)

The Seattle Animal Foundation (SAF) is seeking a Development Chair to help raise awareness and funding for our organization. The Development Chair is an integral part of our all-volunteer Board of Directors. This is an unpaid position with a 3-year term. The position requires around 5 hours of work weekly and attendance at monthly board meetings.

The ideal candidate has experience with donor development and fundraising, sales and client relations, and database management, preferably for a nonprofit organization. They are excited to engage with and grow our current donor base. Attention to detail, self-organization, and the ability to thrive as part of a remote, small team environment are essential elements to this role.

DEI Committee Member (2 openings)

The Seattle Animal Shelter (SAF) is looking for a volunteer (unpaid) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Lead to join our DEI Committee! SAF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on raising critical funds for animal shelters in Seattle. Our all‐volunteer board and committees are passionate about animal care and love giving back to our community.

Partnerships Lead Committee Member: The ideal candidate has a proven track record of success in partner relations, ideally for an animal nonprofit or related field. This position will support in developing partnerships with organizations that support the populations we serve, ensuring Seattle’s diverse communities remain centered in our work. Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to listen well across a diverse set of perspectives as well as demonstrates understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion subject matter and ability to approach DEI through an intersectional lens are essential elements to this role. The candidate will also work with our development, events and marketing teams to ensure our donors and vendors align to our values as an organization.

Programs Lead Committee Member: The ideal candidate has a proven track record of success in managing DEI programming and initiatives, ideally for an animal nonprofit or related field. This position will support in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our work. Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to listen well across a diverse set of perspectives as well as demonstrates understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion subject matter and ability to approach DEI through an intersectional lens are essential elements to this role. The candidate will also work cross-functionally with SAF board committees to evolve and execute against SAF’s established DEI commitments.

Esteban Rodriguez

Esteban Rodriguez is the Seattle Animal Shelter Executive Director. He has been in the animal welfare industry for over a decade and takes pride that he has been able to work all components of animal welfare, from kennel technician to executive director. He has a wealth of experience from previous employment and has been able to evolve in the ever-changing landscape of animal welfare.

Esteban is excited to make Seattle Animal Shelter a more equitable environment for the people they serve. When he is not building community relationships and inviting community members to be part of the Seattle Animal Shelter. He enjoys spending time with family, listening to music, and playing golf with his family.

Meghan Madden

Meghan Madden is a nonprofit fundraising and operations professional, mostly in the environment and wildlife conservation sectors. She leads the committee that oversees grants to the Seattle Animal Shelter and is a critter foster volunteer with the shelter. Meghan a dog, 2 rabbits adopted from SAS, and a rotating roster of foster guinea pigs, rabbits, and the occasional rat. Outside of trying to save all the wild and domesticated animals, Meghan loves reading, hiking, traveling, horror movies, and snuggling with her furbabies.

Treasurer (Board Member)

Do you love dogs, cats, and critters? Do you also have a passion for accounting, financial management and supporting a mission to raise critical funds for Seattle’s animals that are most in need? If so, we have a position for you!

The Seattle Animal Foundation is seeking a Treasurer to oversee all accounting operations and raise awareness of our functioning 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The Treasurer is an integral part of our 15-person volunteer Board of Directors. This is an unpaid position with a 3-year term that starts March 2024. The position requires around 5 hours of work weekly and attendance at monthly Board meetings. Flexibility to participate in in-person events and meetings is required.

Lacy Bell

Lacy Bell is a transit planning professional who is passionate about improving transportation systems to provide equitable mobility options for all individuals. She received her BS and MS transportation engineering degrees from Georgia Tech. She loves that here in Seattle dogs are allowed to accompany their humans on the bus!

During the pandemic, her family adopted their wonderful Pitbull terrier (Boogie) from the Seattle Animal Shelter. Soon after that she began volunteering with the SASF Auction Committee to support the foundation’s mission to provide resources to successfully transition animals to their forever homes.

Lacy and her husband Aaron spend much of their free time watching baseball as their 14 year old son is an avid baseball player and fan with a pretty wicked left handed change-up. Go Mariners! They are somewhat recent transplants to the PNW having relocated from Denver five years ago.

Mindy Fitzgerald

Mindy is a marketing and communications professional and has worked with numerous clients in public, private and non-profit sectors. From road safety and food waste to educating Washingtonians about the new REAL ID law – Mindy has spent the past 12 years working on public awareness campaigns.

She’s been volunteering with the Seattle Animal Shelter on and off for several years and was on the auction committee in 2022. She was impressed by the generosity of Seattle’s animal-loving community with record funds raised! She is excited to be an official member of the SASF Board this year – serving as auction co-chair.

Mindy and her family adopted their dog Charlie Spot Fitzgerald from the SAS in 2017. He is the sweetest most lovable 100+ pound lap dog they could have ever imagined. His daycare describes him as the big black dog that goes boof, boof.

Mindy is passionate about animals and fundraising for their welfare. She loves spending time in her garden planting, weeding and just enjoying the dirt. Her husband is a transplant from Boston, so she’s learned to love the Boston Celtics (go C’s) and really enjoys a good lobster roll. She’s still working on her golf game.

Mindy is a true PNW’er having grown up in Edmonds and graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in communications. Go Dawgs!

She’s previously been a volunteer and board member at NAMI Seattle and enjoys volunteering with Ballard Food Bank.

Julia Leffler is a marketing professional with over a decade of experience in the entertainment industry. She has spent the last three years in Seattle and is honored to be able to help the animals of this city. She holds a BA from New York University and recently completed her MBA at University of Washington’s Foster School of Business. In her free time, she enjoys playing board games with friends and spending time in the park with her boys – her husband, son, and rescue pup.

Paige España

Paige España is a nonprofit professional with a decade of animal welfare experience, most recently serving as the director of a grassroots cat and dog rescue in Portland, Oregon, where she oversaw operations, communications, and fundraising and helped lead the organization’s inaugural pursuit of social justice education. Currently, she works as part of the administration and operations team at Housing Development Consortium, the affordable housing membership association of Seattle-King County. Paige holds an MA in Writing & Publishing from Portland State University, a Certificate in Nonprofit Executive Leadership from Willamette Valley Development Officers, and is presently learning Spanish poco a poco.

She believes in kindness, curiosity, and conscientious learning as core tools to honor the contributions that each of us bring to our work and to the world. She is thrilled to be a part of the SASF board and collaborate with a dedicated and compassionate group to make the world a better place for companion animals and their people. In her free time, Paige enjoys life with her partner and their pittie, exploring the great outdoors, a dog-friendly restaurant, or a good story together.
